The coaching stock depicted on the far side of the island platform would be for a service from Newquay to Chacewater. We're looking towards Perranporth and it would seem that that is where the next service is expected. Presuming the scaffolding is level this indicates that the line was on a slight climb towards Goonbell. Back in the 19th century, Perranporth was a typical Cornish tin mining village, albeit overlooking a huge expanse of sandy beach. Mining for tin, copper and other minerals has bequeathed a landscape scarred by man and partially reclaimed by nature all utterly fascinating to explore. Using at Google Earth and street view and looking towards where the other wall of this bridge would have been there is no trace. Walk across the beach and up the cliff path beyond the Lifeguard hut. Slates have gone from the roof and a gentleman is making off with some useful looking timber. Wak along the road and uphill through the woods and keep straight on when the road finishes. It is the weekend and so Laurence speculates that with the contractors away this gentleman may be doing a little tidying up for his own benefit! Copyright Keith Jenkin, Prior to road improvements at Rejarrah the main road from Chiverton Cross to Newquay crossed the Treamble branch by means of a substantial bridge. Very interesting is that it appears that the signal for entry into the Treamble branch is pulled off. Date unknown. Towards the end of the walk there is a drainage ditch that needs reasonable athleticism to jump. Walk through the town, left at the mini roundabout, follow the road and after the road entrance to the beach take the footpath up the hill towards the golf course. Cross the road and then bear right and follow the footpath, through a gate and alongside a stone wall, joining up with the South West Coastal path and dropping down into the town.
